How to: Naked 2 Smokey Eye

Of all the Naked palettes, I think Naked 2 gets a tad overlooked... in my collection at least. Naked was my first love and Naked 3’s beautiful rose gold hues work well with my eyes/complexion, but when it Comes to 2, I sometimes struggle with combos. So I challenged myself to create an effortless, but glamorous smokey eye using only Naked 2. For this look I used four shades from the palette...
Snakebite is dark bronze with a dirty golden shimmer-sheen. I used this to darken the look and add some definition to the outer eye area.
Suspect is a soft champagne-bronze with a frosted, metallic sheen. I use this shade a lot, it’s such a versatile shade and lays down good foundations.
Busted is a burgundy-tinted, deep brown with warm, golden undertones. I wasn’t sure this one would be with the look but it helped to deepen the eye.
YDK is a warm, coppery red-toned medium brown with a frosted finish. This one is stunning! I used it in the centre of the lid. It catches the light beautifully and helps the eyes sparkle.

  1. Prime the eyes first! My weapon on choice is usually the Urban Decay Primer Potion, however I’ve recently switched it up with Benefit Stay Don't Stray and I’ve got to say I think I prefer it??? Not only does it prime the eye and provide a smooth base, it also provides good coverage, concealing shadows and discolouration.
  2. Apply Suspect as a base colour using a medium size brush (I used MAC 217) all over the lid – up to and just past the crease (if they’re big enough) and be generous!
  3. Apply Snakebite to the outer half of the lid and up along the crease.
  4. With a smaller brush work in Busted to the outer part of the eye lid, close to the lower lash line. Pat the colour in layers to create depth.
  5. Blend with a fluffy brush to work the colours together.
  6. Add a bit more suspect to pull the colours together.
  7. Apply YDK to the centre of the lid. I find this one works best damp – spray brush with MAC Fix + or use fingers to dab directly on the lid and minimise the fall out.
  8. Using a fluffy brush blend, blend, blend to ensure the colours bleed seamlessly together.
  9. With a smudger brush trace Busted along the lower lash line.
  10. Apply eyeliner, for this look I used Bobbi Brown Gel Liner because it lasts amazingly.
  11. Lashings of mascara to finish. On this occasion I used Chanel Volume de Chanel.

Naked 2 £37 available from various retailers including Debenhams, LookFantastic and Feel Unique.

May/June Favourites... Starting at just £1

Johnson’s Baby Powder | £1 Superdrug
Remember life before Batiste? I bet many of you can’t? But back in those dark days we used talc to fix greasy roots – my Mum still does! So a few weeks ago when my roots resembled an oil slick, I tipped some talc into my roots, let it work its magic overnight and the next morning... voile dry, healthy looking roots. Okay it’s not the easiest to apply. There’s a good chance it will end up all over your shoulders (and the floor) and apply too much and you’ll look like a Golden Girl, but left over night, it works wonders and for a fraction of the price of dry shampoo. I’ve had this bottle two months and barely made a dint. And it doesn’t have to be branded – no frills talc works just the same.
Elemis Fangipani Monoi Oil | £31.50 Cult Beauty
Indulgence in a bottle! Whenever I’m feeling a bit “bleugh” I treat myself to a lovely hot bath then cover my entire body with Fangipani Monoi Oil. The exotic fragrance is aromatherapy at its best and the super luxurious oil provides serious moisturisation to dry skin. Sit it in hot water for five minutes to melt before applying the oil generously. The warm oil feels extremely comforting, plus it absorbs rapidly so there’s no need to wonder around neked waiting for it to air dry.... unless of course you want to.
Bourjois Mascara 1 Seconde Volume Mascara | £9.99 Boots

This stuff gives rocking volume, and fast! I’ve been completely hooked since I picked this up a few weeks ago. It’s my current daily go-to mascara, full review here.
Sleep in Roller Backcomb Brush | £3.60 Lookfantastic

These little backbomb brushes are so good, I’ve bought two! I started with the Vogetti Wonder Brush, which literally transformed my hair and is with me at all times! So when I realised Sleep in Rollers did a version, I purchased it as a backup. It’s absolutely ideal for backcombing and teasing roots and because they’re made with natural bristles they’re kind to hair and can be used to brush hair and tease out tangles.
Essie Mint Candy Apple | £7.99 Boots

An oldie but a goodie! It wouldn’t be summer without Mint Candy Apple. For me, as soon as the sun shines and the sandals come out, so does MCA. A stunning, tan enhancing, minty shade that works every time. I rarely ever finish a bottle of polish, but this one’s nearly done and WILL be on the repurchase list.
No! No! Skin | £129.99 Boots
This handy little spot zapper has saved the day many times in the last month stopping nasty spot in their tracks and clearing them up fast! Full review here.
Seventeen Skin Wow Primer/Highlighter | £5.99 Boots
The ultimate cream higher, I’ve been really loving this lately. I apply it after foundation, dabbing it anywhere I want to glow – cheek bones, forehead, cupids bow etc. leaving behind a beautiful pearlescent glow.

Let me know what you think of my favourites and please share yours!

‘The Global Strikers’ My Very First (and very Fabulous) Birchbox

Did I pick a good month to join Birchbox or what?  Yes it’s true, I’ve “defected” to the Birchbox side. If you’ve followed beauty & le chic for a while you’ll know I was a Glossybox devotee from the start. They started strong but soon went downhill. Disappointment, after disappointment, I finally cancelled my subscription. I’ve been keeping my eye on Birchbox as a potential replacement for a little while. It certainly seems a lot more consistent?? And when the ‘Global Strikers’ box (£10+p&p) started popping up in my blog/instagram feed, the decision was made.
The Global Strikers box is, of course, paying homage to the World Cup. It’s filled with top beauty players from across the globe plus a couple of cute Brazilian extras in the form a green drawstring pouch and Brazilian inspired Birchbox keyring.
Beauty Blender + Blender Cleanser Solid | Full Size £26

Of all the products up for grabs in this month’s box, this is the one I wanted the most. The original beauty blender is an ingenious egg-shaped make-up sponge that ensures flawless makeup application plus a solid soap to clean it. This bright pink sponge has always intrigued me so I’m really looking forward to trying it.
O.P.I Nail Polish mini from the Brazil Collection | Full size £11.95
Looks like I hit the jackpot with this one too. There are some weird and wonderful shades in the Brazil Collection, this is one of the more wearable ones. Samba-Dy Loves Purple is a vivid orchid shade with a “liquid sand” texture. I quickly swatched on my little finger and it’s a winner.
Naobay Body Radiance lotion 30 ml | Full Size £14/250ml
This Spanish brand is new on me but it’s natural, organic, recyclable, biodegradable and smells lush!
Caudalie Vinoperfect SPF 15 Day Perfecting Fluid 10ml | Full Size £38/40ml
Another star product I was chuffed to see. I love Caudalie – beauty elixir, divine oil, vinoperfect serum, they’ve never let me down so I’ve got suitably high expectations for this moisturiser which promises to hydrate, brighten and even skintone.
The Balm How 'Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream in Pie Sample Size | Full Size Palette £29

So this is sweet, small, but sweet. I’ve never tried any of the Balm’s products but I’ve seen them featured on US blogs and always liked the look of them. Pie is a rosy apple coloured balm for lips and cheeks. Dab on with fingertips – it’s as easy as (apple) pie! It may be super small but that means hand bag friendly!
I am super impressed with my first Birchbox. Nails, makeup, skincare, bodycare... it has the lot! Find out how to subscribe to Birchbox here

Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask – Dull Skin SOS

This stuff is rocket fuel for those mornings when your skin lets you down or anytime you need to fake a glow, and fast!
Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask* is a fast-acting pick me up for dull, tired skin. As with all Liz’s products it contains a cocktail of goodies including purifying white clay, toning witch hazel, stimulating camphor oil and hydrating aloe vera.
I apply a thin layer to dry skin and leave for just a few minutes whilst I’m brushing my teeth or making a brew... Resist the urge to leave it on for longer. It isn’t a typical mask that needs to sit there for half an hour. This one works fast! There’s a slight tingle so you know it’s working and a refreshing scent to boot. Remove with a warm muslin cloth for that at home spa experience. Finish with a splash of cold water to close the pores.
Results... It instantly brightens and refreshes my skin, giving it that wonderful post exercise kinda glow - seriously I look like I’ve just come back from a swift morning stroll, not a night of tossing and turning. My skin looks squeaky clean and rejuvenated without being dry or tight. My pores even appear smaller and it provides a wonderful even base for my makeup.

It’s definitely a must have in my skincare arsenal! Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask £14.75 with Muslin Cloths available from Liz Earle, John Lewis and selected Boots stores.

Bourjois 1 Seconde volume Mascara - Fanned, Fat, flutterful lashes FAST!

Let’s get straight to the point. This stuff is GOOD! 1 second? Maybe not but 4-5 and you’re done!
I popped to the metro centre (aka my Mecca) last week sans make up, which I actually do quite a lot because some times I just can't be bothered, plus I quite like wandering the stores, painting my face as I go. Whilst perusing the aisles of Boots this mascara jumped out at me. I’m no sucker for packaging but this one is pretty striking - that fat silver tube with pastel writing, I couldn't resist. A couple of sweeps on my lashes and I was sold! This stuff gives rocking volume, and fast!
It has a flexible, yet sturdy plastic wand with a large brush head, not a million miles away from Benefit’s They're Real Mascara – which may be why I like it so much. It has unique spherical bristles that wrap every lash in a 360° motion and straight bristles that create clump free definition. It coats lashes with a generous amount of formula and scoops them to new heights, fast. It fans the lashes perfectly, thickens and gives a good ol’ curl. A quick sweep or two and the lashes are done. Plus absolutely no clumping or smudging. This is a great everyday mascara for me, just as my L’Oreal Volume Million mascara is about to run out. I don’t have the time to faff on in the morning - quick coverage, instant volume and nice curl - that's what I crave and that’s exactly what this delivers!

FOTD - Done but not too DONE

A pretty quick and simple look today. I wanted to use most of the products featured in my MAC San Fran Haul. You know when you want to look done, but not too DONE - think Saturday shopping or a trip to the hairdressers, that kinda thing.

L'Oreal Lumi Foundation £9.35 Feel Unique - I feature this all the time so I won't labour the point, it's just a great daytime glowy foundation. I applied it from the centre of the face outwards, blending with my favourite MAC 130 duo fibre brush.
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer £15.50 Debenhams - I probably reach for my dab and go Collection concealer more than this. This one requires a bit more effort - pump, brush, blend - but it's worth it. Gives great coverage that lasts all day.
Sleek Face Form £9.99 Superdrug - I skipped the blush and instead used a little contour powder to give me something that resembles cheek bones and a sweep of bronzer on the cheeks and temples to give some colour.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Luminous Light £38 SpaceNK - I know, the price makes me wince, but this is possibly my favourite product of all time. I don't want to say too much about this, I'm working on a review but struggling to put it's beauty into words! I'll just say it's like a magic finishing powder that luminizes (I know that's not a word) the face and blurs the imperfections.

Really simple eyes - a quick wash of MAC All That Glitters Eyeshadow £12.50 Denenhams all over the lids. A thin line of MAC Coffee Eye Pencil £14 Selfridges along the top lash line only. Finished with Chanel Volume de Chanel Mascara £25 HOF. For brows it was just the usual - a little HD Brow Powder to fill obvious gaps and the wonderous Benefit Gimme Brow £17.50 John Lewis to fill, thicken and finish.

A couple layers (layer, blot, layer) of MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Japanese Maple £15 Debenhams, my current go to.

Make up Steals: Top Ten Under a Tenner

Who needs a celebrity bank balance to look like one? Not us thanks to the wonderful high street. I've tried and tested some of the best budget beauty buys and they're all under a tenner!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer £4.19 Superdrug

Best Concealer under a tenner full stop! A fantastic all rounder - covers spots and dark circles, it's creamy, quick and easy to use and lasts all day. Wouldn't mind some more shades, but at this price, I aint moaning. A holy grailer for me!

Bourjois Khol & Contour £5.99 Boots
I can't get enough of this liner. I use Brun & Caramel - the brown is the best brown I've found (better than MAC Coffee) and the Caramel shade is a gorgeous golden highlighter/smudger with a hint of shimmer. Not always easy to find, I live in fear that Bourjois might discontinue them - don't do it! Full review and pics here.

Sleek Face Form £9.99 Superdrug
Just squeezing in with a penny to spare. The ultimate contour kit - contour powder, highlighter and a bronzer/blush for under a tenner! Full  review here.

Maybelline Color Tattoos £4.99 Boots

Now this stuff is down right amazing. Long lasting, vibrant, super pigmented, cream/gel eyeshadows - think MAC paint pots but a whole lot cheaper. I have on and on bronze, metallic pomegranate and barely branded. Wear alone or use at a base to build colour. Review here.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss £7.99 Boots
Long gone are the days I spend twenty quid on a lip gloss. A pop of colour, weighless, moisturising, smooth and non-sticky. Bellini is my current poison.

Maybelline Mascaras from £2.99 Fragrance Direct
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you can't go wrong with a Maybelline mascara. I've tried most of them over the years - Falsies, Colossal, Mega Plush, Rocket - they've all got it going on.

Seventeen Skin Wow Primer/Highlighter £5.99 Boots
The Ultimate cream highlighter - better than Benefit High Beam in my humble opinion. Use as a primer, mix with foundation or dab where ever you want to Glow!

NYX Rouge Cream Blush £5.50 NYX
The closest match I ever found to my beloved MAC Blushcreme (not cremeblend). They go on creamy, stay creamy and are available in a plethora of shades. Review and swatches here.

Revlon Lip Butters £7.99, currently £5.99 Boots
Lipstick, lipbalm hybrids - feel like a balm, look like a lipstick and available in over 20 shades. Strawberry shortcake and Creme Brulee are my personal faves.

Real Techniques Blush Brush £7.50 AllBeauty
If only Sam and Nic had dreamed these wonderful brushes up sooner - woulda saved me a whole lotta money! I could have happily featured any of their high quality, low cost make up tools, but the blush brush is my most used. Hand crafted with baby soft bristles for the perfect finish every time. Oddly I find it a little too big for blush application, I mainly use mine for bronzing and all over blending.

Time to share the love. What are your best budget beauty buys?

You've heard of no! no! hair right? The adverts are everywhere and I'm hearing great things about it. Well did you know there was a no! no! skin? A magic little device that zaps spots.

When it comes to the dreaded spots/acne plague, I've been pretty lucky. I don't suffer too badly but I do get blemish breakouts, usually around my chin and jaw line and it's always at the most inconvenient of times. When I started trailing no! no! skin* it was definitely with some trepidation. A little pain-free, chemical-free gadget the magically clears pesky spots... it all sounded a little too easy. Well it proved me to be a skeptic, because it works, it really does!

It's the only acne treatment devise that puts the power and precision of acne phototherapy safely in your control. It works like a little laser using therapeutic waves and Light and Heat Energy (LHG) to target individual spots and pimples and stop them in their tracks. I was going out last Saturday night and true to form on the Thursday before a gang of spots appeared. I started treating them immediately with no! no! skin and by Saturday they were mostly gone. No! no! skin or a fluke? I wasn't sure. Two days later another massive spot started "brewing" on my chin (no doubt caused by the copious amounts of alcohol and chips and garlic I consumed) and I thought, this will put you to the test little no! no! I zapped it twice in the morning, twice and night, and guess what? It didn't even develop. The lump shrank and disappeared in front of my eyes. That's when I knew, this works, it really does! The LHG reaches deep into the pore, starting the healing process that stops acne at its source and killing blemish-causing bacteria, while the heat gently opens the pores and soothes any inflammation. I've been using mine for a few weeks now and I'm hooked. I've even been using it in the car (passenger, not driver! that would be reckless).

It couldn't be easier to use. Simply POINT on the spot, PRESS the button and let the PULSE do its thing. Treat each spot to two zaps, twice a day and voile, no no spots!

The Lipstick Tag – a peek into my excessive collection (and giveaway winner revealed)

Argh  Lipsticks, my Achilles heel. So when I saw the Lipstick Tag doing the rounds, I had to get involved. Through the magic of one sided Q&A here's an insight into my lipstick obsession...
1. How many lipsticks do you own?
I’m almost scared to answer this one at fear of judgement. I’ve also avoided counting them because I didn’t want to face the ugly truth. Anyway, I did the deed and counted 39 and there's a few kicking around in my handbag and desk, so I'll say 45. If you're sitting there with a 1 or 2 lipsticks, remember you're normal, NOT ME!
2. What was the first lipstick you owned?
Ha, this one’s easy. Rimmel Heather Shimmer – the go-to lipstick for girl’s growing up in the 90’s.
3. What is your favourite lipstick brand?
MAC, all the way. They cover the whole colour and finish spectrum. Of course they’re not the cheapest lipsticks out there, but they’re not in the dizzy heights of YSL or Chanel either.
4. Most worn?
This changes all the time, currently my most worn is MAC Japanese Maple, but my most worn over time and the one I have repurchased the most if MAC Angel – a classic nudey pink. I'm also slightly obsessed with Soap & Glory's Sexy Mother Plucker lipstick/gloss in Nudist.
5. What is your favourite finish?
I’m a sucker for a creamy lipstick, which is why I’m always drawn to MAC’s Cremesheen lipsticks. However I’ve surprised myself with matte lipsticks of late. As long as they don’t dry the lips, I love the way at matter lipstick looks.
6. Newest lipsticks in your collection?
45 is enough lipsticks for the rest of my life, right? So I’m trying not to increase that count but I did get two new lipsticks in the MAC San Fran Haul – Japanese Maple and Peach Blossom.
7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?
Too many! There’s always a few balms/sticks/crayons kicking around in my bag. I actually instagram’s the lip contents of my bag the other week because I was shocked at how many. EOS lipbalm in Sweet Mint, Sleek Pout Polish, Soap & Glory Nudist, Rimmel Let's get Naked, MAC Japanese Maple on so on! I basically throw stuff in and forget to take them out.
8. What is your favourite red?
I love red, unfortunately red’s don’t love me. I got sucked in to the whole RiRi Woo hype and I do adore it but generally I think more orange toned reds work better for me, like Sleek’s OMG.

9. How do you store your lipsticks?
Apart from the ones I cart around in my handbag? Well I used to store them in the good ol' MUJI drawers but they only fit a single layer of lippies so I found it to be a waster of space. Currently I’m storing my most used lipsticks in a very cute vintage glass dish, which holds about 20 (above) and the rest I keep safely tucked away in my dresser drawer in this Ikea divider.

10. What lipstick are you currently lusting after?
I’ve heard L’Oreal are releasing a JLo inspired Nude, now that I won’t be able to resist.

Now I tag all of you! Share this page, do your own tag and let me know your favourite lip sticks.

Thanks to everyone that entered the MAC Lipstick Giveaway. The winner, chosen by Rafflecopter in association with is....

Victoria Norris @pink_lady123 Congratulations! Sorry to the rest of your, but there'll be another one again soon!
