Is this the Best Mascara ever?

Want to know what the best-selling beauty product on the market is? Look no further than this...
Benefit’s They’re Real mascara is the number 1 selling beauty product in the UK right now, out-selling other cult beauty products despite its relative youth on the market. I’ve heard that people are amazed at the results – apparently it gives you eye lashes you never knew you had! OK, now I’m interested.
Here’s the claim... The special formula lengthens, curls and thickens your lashes for a doll-eyed look, without making them clumpy or dry – which is a rarity with false lash mascaras. The jet black, long-wearing formula won’t smudge or dry out. The precision brush separates lashes perfectly, giving you lashes you didn’t even know you had.

Sold? Well not quite. Talk is cheap and this mascara is not! The thing that’s holding me back is, I don’t really rate Benefit’s cosmetics (GASP) and I never got the hype over the Bad Gal Mascara.
But with the 60s, doll-eyed look being so massive right now I want to try it sooner rather than later... so, it’s over to you my beauty obsessed lovelies. Have you tried it? Is it worth it? Does it live up to the hype?

Stila Convertible Colour V MAC Blushcreme

Now those that have followed me for a while will know that my all time favourite cream blush is MAC’s Blushcreme in Ladyblush, read all about it here. You’ll also know that MAC discontinued it last year, a decision I’m still reeling from... seriously what were they thinking!!!
So onwards and upwards I’ve searched for an alternative.  First stop of course was MAC’s own replacement, the Cremeblend blush, which is a completely different animal. What’s the point in bringing out a cream blush that isn’t CREAMY. In short, it’s nice and lightweight but it’s verging on a cream to powder blush. Blushcremes have, sorry HAD the WOW factor. They were thick and creamy, bright and richly pigmented. A bit sticky, a bit tacky but either way gave the face an amazing dewy glow, and boy did they last.
I won’t bore you with my ramblings but the search continued onto Nars, Maybeline, Topshop .... none came close. Just when I was about to give up hope, Stila returned to the UK’s shores. Stila Convertible Colours are the closet match I’ve found. The look, the feel, the consistency is all very similar.
So what are Stila Convertible Colours?
Basically they’re a multi-use product for lips and cheeks. They’re creamy, tacky, vibrant and generously pigmented.  Available in 9 shades, this one is Lillium, a rosey pink with peachy hint and the colour of the compact reflects the colour of the makeup inside... GENIUS.

They’re easy to apply, I tend to dab on with my fingers then blend in with a duo fibre brush such as MAC’s 188. It instantly brightens the cheeks with a subtle flush of colour; Apply with a heavy hand to intensify the effect. The result, a dewy, glossy glow that lasts all day. It mixes well with other cream products too, sometimes I mix a bit of Ladyblush to intensify the pink tinge or layer over MAC’s cream colour base in Hush.

Wearing Lillium on my cheeks and lips

Here it is compared to MAC Blushcremes in Ladyblush and Lilicent. As you can see they look very similar in daylight, but quite different under artificial lighting.

MAC Ladyblush, Stila Lillium, Mac Lilicent under artificial light

In daylight MAC Ladyblush, Stila Lillium, Mac Lilicent

Ladyblush is very pinky, Lilicent Peachy and Lillium somewhere in between with a tinge of rose.
I’m glad I’ve discovered Stila Convertible Colours, they get the thumbs up from me BUT none of the shades quite match my beloved Ladyblush and I'm beginning to think nothing will ever live up to Blushcreme.

I need to start a campaign #bringbackmacblushcremes

This Week's Nails... Crushed Grape from Leighton Denny

This week’s nails are my favourite kinda nails, FREE ones! Well kind of... this lovely Leighton Denny polish came free with this months Red Magazine.

This is only my second Leighton Denny, the first came in a Glossybox BUT it's Orange and I haven't tried it yet, so technically this is my first Leighton Denny experience and I’m happy to report it was a good one! Crushed Grape is best described as a sophisticated Mauve. It’s the sort of shade that looks great whatever the season. It cheered up my hands without looking over the top!
The formula is top class - smooth, creamy, easy to apply and amazingly opaque with just one coat; although I added second for added staying power. The result, a high gloss professional finish. Sounds great BUT there was a downside, it wasn’t as long lasting as say, OPI. There were chips on the tips on day two, although my nails aren’t in great condition at the moment so maybe they’re to blame. Either way since it’s a dark shade they were very noticeable.
Overall I’m very impressed with Leighton’s polishes and will happily try another, I may even channel umpa-lumpa style and give the orange one a go.

Three shades available with March's Red Magazine, 'Whatever' (a soft lilac) 'Vamp' (a dark Rouge), and 'Crushed Grape' £3.80 Available from M&S and WH SMITH

Who said Good Make up Brushes have to cost a Bomb?

No7 Brushes, hands down, the best “inexpensive” brushes on the market. Now when I say inexpensive, I mean considerably cheaper than MAC’s, without compromising on the quality. Plus when there’s a £5 off N07 voucher on the go, which, let’s face it is nearly always these days, they’re literally “cheap as chips”.
I love their Foundation Brush £14, £9 with the voucher. I’d previously used MAC’s 190 foundation brush, which is fine, but in my opinion, this one's even better and less than half the price. The bristles are packed extremely densely allowing you to create a seamless coverage without lines or streaks. They're soft, yet firm and pick up the right amount of product without “drinking” it. Plus, the shorter handle affords you more control.
I recently added the Concealer Brush to my collection  £8, using the voucher just £3!
I already have a pin point concealer brush for covering up spots but I wanted one to use under the eye area and around my nose for more flawless application and this one does just that. Like the foundation brush its bristle’s are really soft and densely packed – great quality and no shedding.

This Week's Treats

So much to blog about and NEVER enough time to share! For that reason I'm lumping last week's treats together. Call it post January blues or a post pay day splurge, but sometimes you've just got to treat yourself.

Channeling a bit of 90s grunge, I'm loving this Topshop grey speckle tee dress £29. It's the perfect winter to spring piece. Great now with leggings, boots and biker jacket... perfect in the spring with some simple sandles and a denim jacket.

I also picked up this super cute Topshop Friendship Bracelet in the sale, just £1.50! I HEART a bargain and some Black Baxter Jeans, because black jeans don't stay BLACK for long.

So onto the good stuff... First of all, needing no introduction, a tube of MAC Strobe Cream £12 30ml. This size is really handy for handbags and great for travelling. I wear it high on my cheek bones or anywhere I want to glow.

Next, a MAC Powder Blush in Style. I took a leap of faith with this one buying it online, bit of a mistake! I picked it because it has a frost finish, which I LOVE. Margin is one of my all time favourite blushers, see review here. I expected a similar result with Style, WRONG! Described as a Coral Peach with Gold Pearl, it's actually very sheer, almost colourless on my skin tone. I had to use a very heavy hand for it to show up. The gold pearl is cute though and it'll probably look great on lighter skin... maybe it's just me wanting the drag queen look :)

MAC Style

Heavily swatched in daylight

Mavala Nail Polish in Miami, I can't wait to try it. Can you believe it's my first Mavala polish?

I also stocked up on Dry Shampoo - I literally have nightmares that I'll run out of this! Batiste is currently half price at Superdrug. Then, in a desperate over reaction to spotting some laughter I purchased some Garnier Ultra Lift Anti-Wrinkle Firming Eye Cream £9.87 Boots... It's all down hill from here!

And finally ladies... talking about treats...

Happy Valentine's Day!

I can buy my boyfriend these undies but he'll never look like David Beckham!

Beauty Buzz... L'Oreal Paris Lumi Magique Range

Lumi Magique is the new beauty range from cosmetic giant L'Oreal that’s making some serious waves in the industry. Threatening to knock YSL’s touch éclat of its pedestal with its liquid light technology, the range consists of a primer, foundation and concealer and promises to illuminate your complexion as if lit-from-within!

L'Oreal Paris Lumi Magique Primer £9.99 20ml
The Lumi Magique Primer is a unique liquid light formula that blends seamlessly into skin to boost its liveliness and luminosity. The liquid is gorgeous and glowy and very luminescent and for those reasons I think it’s less of an all over base and more of a highlighter. It reminds me of MAC’s Strobe Liquid. The pure light primer can be used alone for a supple, dewy look, or mix with your foundation for an all over radiant finish or dab onto key areas as a highlighter. For best results I find apply under foundation in a figure of '3', from forehead, to the nose, to the chin is the best way to highlight your bone structure. It really does illuminate your complexion, especially under artificial light.

L'Oreal Lumi Magique Foundation £10.99 30 ml
A dollop of foundation over the Lumi Primer
The Lumi Magique foundation is a Light Infusing liquid which gives luminosity to the skin to provide a perfect coverage without masking. I’ve tried it a couple of times, but I think you need to road test it for longer than that to fully assess it, but early indications are good. It’s very light weight yet does give a good coverage. Yes it gives a GLOW but I wouldn’t say an all over dewy finish as it does “set” a little. Of course it works very well with the Lumi Magique Primer but it holds its own, on its own. The only downside I can find is the limited range of shades, there’s currently only 6! This shade (W5 Gold Sand) is a little darker than my current winter induced pasty complexion, but I think it will be perfect for the summer months.
Lumi Magique Foundation blended out over Lumi Magique Primer

L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer £8.49
L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer helps brighten the appearance of eyes, cover any imperfections and highlight cheekbones, brow bones and the cupid's bow. Now I haven’t got my mitts on this just yet but comparisons are already being drawn with YSL touch éclat! Umm, tough, probably impossible boots to fill, still, I can’t wait to try it. Many under eye pens tend to be a little thick and cakey, with the emphasis on light I’m hoping this one will be more of a highLIGHTER than a concealer. Oh and I think they've got the packaging SPOT-ON! Doesn't it look expensive! Available in three shades light, medium and dark.
Find out more about the Lumi Magique range from Boots.com Available in stores from late February.

And watch this space for reviews of L'Oreal Nude Magique BB Cream, also hitting stores soon.

Is it Worth it? L'Oreal's False Lash Telescopic Mascara

We’ve seen the photos and drooled over Cheryl's advert so I couldn’t wait to try the new False Lash Telescopic Mascara. BUT my first impressions weren’t great. Firstly I didn’t think much of the packaging, the plastic metallic look cheapens it and it has a wobbly rubber wand... I DON’T LIKE FLEXI, RUBBERY WANDS!
Although on close inspections that comb-like wand is really quite special. It’s different to others; it’s almost rectangular, not circular. Now, I don’t know if it’s the shape or the distance between the teeth, or both, but the comb grips the lashes like no other and really does sculpt them to new heights.

The mascara coats the lashes generously, which you don’t always get with rubber wands (I’m thinking about Revlon’s Custom Eyes Mascara) no need to keep dipping here. As for the formula, it’s not thick or runny, it’s just right. It isn’t wet or messy, but it does give you plenty of time to “play” before drying. There was no smudging or clumping and it lasted all day, these pictures were taken after eight hours at work.

The Result: Completely Flutterful lashes!

And the flexi wand has won me over! Best of all it washes off easily with regular face wash, no residue flakes or fibers left over.

L'Oreal's False Lash Telescopic Mascara... definately still worth it! Available now £10.99 at Boots and whilst you're there, it's buy one, get one half price on selected L'Oreal.
