Beauty and le Chic Blue aka Baker Street

The nail polish of the year, rolled in diamantes and re-branded "Beauty and le Chic Blue"... Now that's what I'm taking about!

In case you don't know, and trust me you will want to, Nails Inc have taken creativity and customisation to the next level with the amazing Couture by Nails Inc range. You choose the lid, from blinging diamantes to cool leather studs, the shade, the box and you can even name your creation - be it quirky, cool, naughty or nice, it's your choice.

So on to "Beauty and le Chic Blue" aka Baker Street. With a little help from Beyoncé this has become Nails Inc's most sought after polish and I can see why. It's simply divine. Bold yet chic, striking and versatile. This vibrant cobalt blue has won me over and I never imagined I'd love bright blue talons.

As you'd expect from Nails Inc, application is professional and easy. It's completely opaque and provided full coverage with two coats. What completely surprised me is its durability. I normally find Nails Inc have a tendency to chip easily, but not this one. Although it could be down to the Leighton Denny's ONE FOR ALL which I used as a base and top coat. Either way it's four days and still going strong and I'll be rocking it for New Year.

This little blue beauty has rocketted to the top of my lust list, I can't recommend it enough. A bottle of Nails Inc Couture costs £20, find out more here

Christmas Beauties Galore

I do love a nosey at other people's Christmas gifts! Who doesn't call their friends at Christmas and ask "What'd you get"? With that in mind I thought you might like a peek at my gifts... well the beauty ones at least. I left out the slippers and knickers.

Santa must have thought I was a really good girl this year! I've been completely spoilt! Top of my list is this special Nails Inc Couture polish in Beauty and le chic Blue (more on this another time).

I'm very excited to try this beauty. I've heard wonderful things about Chanel's Soleil Tan de Chanel.

It wouldn't be Christmas without a little MAC...

Speed Dial Lipstick

And from the bond collection, the very sexy On Her Majesty's Secret Service from OPI.

And look what I finally got my hands on... my first Diptyque

This lot should keep me in blogging material for months! Hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas. Come back soon for more in depth reviews and my products of the year. Love and Christmas kisses from me and my handsome boy...

Want to know what my favourite EVER Lipstick is?

You may have noticed I've been a bit light on the blog posts lately... Christmas the most wonderful time of year and the BUSIEST! Anyway, you know I'm a big lippy lover so I thought I should share with you my favourite ever lipstick... (can't believe I haven't done this sooner) Drumroll......

It's MAC's Creme Cup! Probably no surprise it's MAC or that it's a pale pink, but not all pale pinks are equal! It's a blue toned baby pink, that suits my complexion perfectly. It's similar to Angel, but without the subtle lilac tint and slightly pinker than Hue, but it's the formula that sets Creme Cup aside. The cremesheen finish is so creamy and moisturising, yet surprisingly pigmented and long wearing. As someone prone to dry, chapped lips it's important for me. It glides on easily straight from the bullet and is so versatile. I wear it most days, it's just so easy and flattering to wear, it's also the perfect partner to the smokey eye.

It's one of those lipsticks that suits nearly everyone. I have friends with blonde hair and very dark hair, pale and warmer toned skins who all rock this.

Here it is next to another of my faves, Creme D'nude...

I think Creme Cup will remain unrivaled in my collection for many years! MAC Lipsticks £14

Glossybox December 2012

Christmas has come early with a box of treats from Glossybox...

Welcome to the Dazzling Bejewelled Christmas Glossybox. This month's box is a cracker, packed with gorgeous treats for the festive season...

Rituals Magic Touch Whipped Body Cream Cherry Blossom
& Rice Milk (Full Size £5/70ml)

This smells lovely and will certainly come in handy over the winter months. If their Foaming Shower Gels are anything to go by, this will be a treat!

Seche Nail Lacquer in Lumiere (Full Size £9.95/14ml)

Seche's top coat is legendary so let's hope their nail lacquers can live up to the name.Lumiere is a dusky peach. For the record, I'm not over the moon with the shade, I would have preferred the navy or berry shades I've seen doing the rounds (swap anyone?) Either way it's a good quality, full size nail polish so I can't complain.

Sebamad Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream (10ml sample)

This is a new one on me, but let's hope it can do something with my dry skin.

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in OMG (Full Size £4.99)

OMG indeed! I was chuffed to see a lipstick, but Sleek's hardly a high end brand is it Glossybox? It's an orangey red and unlike any in my collection so I'll look forward to trying it.

Lemon by Mary Greenwell (5ml vial sample)

And an extra bonus gift...

Kroylan for Glossybox Blush in Rosewood

I'm really happy with this box and it's nice to see so many make up products for a change. I look forward to trying the lipstick and nail polish and I'll let you know if there's any gems.

Glossybox is a monthly subscription service and costs £10 (plus p&p) per month, find out more here

Deborah Lippman Razzle Dazzle

You know you have too many nail polishes when... it takes you a year to use one. It’s practically a year to the day since I received this Deborah Lippman beauty in my Glossybox (See December 2011’s Glossybox here). I can’t explain why it’s been overlooked for some long because it’s truly gorgeous.

The multi-faceted shade is a delicious deep rasberry with specks of purple and fushia. Unlike many glitter polishes you really can create the true bottle shade in just two to three coats. The glitter is quite coarse so I applied a top coat to make it smoother. I’ve got to say it’s a stunning shade – a proper Christmas cracker. I couldn’t stop wiggling my fingers to see the tiny specks of glitter glistening in the light. I was shocked with how long it lasted, after three days it hadn’t chipped or faded in the slightest. As with all glitter polishes it was a pain to remove. I soaked each digit into my little Bourjois pink pot for around one and the polish slid off. It’s a tad time consuming so do it when you’re watching the TV.

This one gets an A from me! You can buy Deborah Lippman polishes from House of Fraser £14

Winter Wonders

Chapped lips, dry skin, flakey scalp – isn’t winter fun! It’s time to winter proof your beauty regime. Here’s what’s top of my list for staying soft, hydrated and glowing this winter.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream
Winter wonder personified! This had to be top of this list. Fantastic for chapped lips, cracked and dry skin. I’ve had some nasty coldsores the last few weeks and eight hour cream helped to heel the scab and relieve the dry skin around them. I even apply this to my eyebrows at night to keep them in place an encourage them to grow in the right direction.

Coconut Oil
I call this one the vinegar of the beauty world. The versatile beauty buy can be used as a luxurious moisturiser for dry, rough skin and as a wonderful hair mask and conditioner. I blogged about this recently so won’t go on again, you can read the review here

Weleda Pomegranate Oil
This is luxury in a bottle. Weleda oils are AMAZING and since using them my skin has become noticeably softer. I apply it all over my body after showering, whilst my skin's still a little damp. The citrus smell is divine and very relaxing. It spreads easily and absorbs surprisingly fast. Oil penetrates the skin and absorbs deep within plus they’re  water-free, so won’t quickly evaporate, meaning they’ll hydrate and benefit your skin for longer... which is what we need in winter! Find out more here
Max Fix +
It’s one of my absolute favourite products. It’s my “I’m feeling bad about myself” solution and 8 hours sleep cheat. An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. It adds radiance and finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up! Simple and quit. See my full review and tips on using it here

Another no brainer. Never are hands more susceptible to drying and cracking. During the winter months I up the anti with a richer, thicker moisturiser like L’Occtinane’s Shea butter. It’s thick and luxurious. It takes a little longer to fully absorb but lasts much longer than lotions. If you need something really heavy duty I recommend The Body Shops Hemp range.

OPI Avoplex Nail & Cuticle Replenishing Oil
Nor forgetting about the talons. If you want to paint your nails in the seasons sparkly hues you’ll need to look after my nails. Avoplex is another of my wonder products. It softens dry cuticles, reduces colour bleeding (crucial when sporting festive reds) and strengthens nails. Oh and it smells divine! Massage it into nails and cuticles twice a day.
So there you have it. That was my top winter beauty savers, what are yours?

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – A One Minute Skin Miracle

It’s no surprise to me that this is Dermalogica’s number one exfoliant! When I received this in last month’s Glossybox I thought it was a novel little product and I looked forward to trying it. I didn’t release what a superstar it was and how much I would fall in love with it.
What’s different about this exfoliator is it’s a POWDER! A unique, gentle, rice-based exfoliating powder that activates upon contact with water. Releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead cells, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter. Formulated with a skin brightening complex of aspergillus, grapefruit and liquorice that help to balance uneven skin pigmentation.
How to use?
Dermalogica  recommends dispensing about a half-teaspoon of Daily Microfoliant into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing hands together. Apply to face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently for one minute, then rinse thoroughly. I’ve tried it this way and it works great, but I prefer dispensing into dry hands and rubbing into a damp face. It starts out as a scrub and evolves into a foamy lather.
It really is a fantastic exfoliant. It’s less abrasive than traditional exfoliators and has cleansing/moisturising properties. Whilst it’s gentle enough to use daily, I tend to use it two to three times a week in conjunction with No7’s Hot Cloth Cleanser (another of my faves). It leaves my skin feels brighter, refreshed and more glowing in an instant.
The downside is... you guess it, it's on the pricey side. A 75g tub will cost around £35, but if you fancy giving it a go, check out this Gift set  from Lookfantastic containing a 75g Daily Microfoliant plus 30ml PreCleanse and 10ml Gentle Cream Exfoliant for £27.

Anyone else love this?

A girl can never have too many lipsticks and with my latest edition I’m channeling my dark side. Given our obsession with Twilight it’s no surprise that we’re vamping it up with bruised and bitten lips.  We’re talking ox blood, deep purples, even black... no dark is too dark apparently!
Whilst I don’t imagine rocking rouge noir, I did fancy something berrylicious. Rebel is a gorgeous berry shade. It looks very purple in the bullet, almost mulberry but once applied is more of a pinky/purple/plum...  It’s hard to describe and having researched it on the internet first, I found it tends to look different on different lips! A lot of people, myself included, struggle with dark lipsticks because they have the tendency to wash you out, especially those with red undertones. Because Rebel has a high pink content, I actually find it warms my face up a little. It was also easy to pair up with blush and eye colour.

This is a satin finish lipstick from MAC, meaning it’s not creamy or matte, it’s somewhere in the middle. I’d describe Rebel as a semi-matte, long-wear, full pigment lipstick. I wouldn't say it's overly drying and when you apply it, it feels soft and silky, but it does eventually set and dry a little. You might want some lipbalm handy. It’s not as dry as matte but not as creamy as amplified creme or cremesheen, which I tend to go for.  The best thing about this lippy, it lasts for hours! I tried it on at the MAC counter, went shopping for 4 hours, ate a wrap, drank some juice and it was still intact!

Rebel is a great pick if you want to channel the vampy trend without looking like a goth. If you dare to go darker, check out Revlon Black Cherry and 17 New Black.

Celebrity Beauty Secret

What do Miranda Kerr, Gwyneth Palthrow and Jenifer Aniston have in common? Aside from being gorgeous and looking younger than their years... they all devotees of Coconut Oil....

Coconut Oil is the vinegar of the beauty world, it has 101 uses! Extracted from the flesh of mature coconuts it can be drunk raw, used in cooking and baking or applied directly to the skin or hair as a moisturiser. Jenifer mixes it with rock salt to make a body scrub, Miranda drinks it in her tea and Gwyneth covers her body in it after a bath. The oil contains fatty acids which are said to leave skin and hair smooth and shiny, and devotees have linked it with a host of other health benefits, including aiding digestion and weight loss.
I love applying it to my skin as a body moisturiser, it tackles the dry, rough patches on my elbows and knees like nothing else! It’s solid in the pot but melts on contact with the skin. It is extremely rich and does takes a little while to absorb – I find it’s best used on an evening after a bath. I swear it’s a winter saviour.
Recently I’ve been using it more on my hair. It can be used on the ends as a quick conditioner but it’s as a mask that it works best. I’ve been frightened to put it on my roots with fear of the oil slick but my scalp was dry and flaky so I took the plunge. Well I looked like a chip pan and smelt like a Bounty but it worked a treat! I massaged it into my scalp and through the ends of the hair, left it over night and rinsed and washed the next morning. The dry scalp was gone, but the best thing, my hair felt stronger and thicker. I’m doing this at least once a week and it’s really improving the condition of my hair.
